How to Use

What the demister does:
- Captures oil mist from the vacuum pump exhaust
- Keeps oil from coating your room, walls, or freeze dryer
- Reduces odor and mess during long runs

What you need
- Harvest Right demister (assembled)
- Paper towel or small container (for first test run)
- Ensure your vacuum pump is turned OFF:

Installation (most important part)

1. Turn off and unplug the pump Never install while the pump is running.
2. Locate the exhaust port. On Harvest Right pumps, this is the top port (not the vacuum hose port).
3. Remove the exhaust cap or plug. Some pumps ship with a plastic cap—remove it.
4. Thread the demister onto the exhaust
5. Hand-tighten only (snug, not forced).
6. Keep it vertical so oil can drain properly.
7. Check the drain port. Some demisters have a drain screw or hose at the bottom. Make sure it’s closed before operation.
8. First use / test run
9. Run the pump for 5–10 minutes. No freeze dryer needed for this test.
10. Check for oil mist
11. You should see little to no vapor coming out the top.
12. A very light airflow is normal.
13. Check for leaks
14. If oil appears around the threads, shut off and reseat the demister.

During normal operation
- Leave the demister installed at all times
- Expect Quiet airflow, no oil spray or strong oil smell

Maintenance & cleaning after every few batches:
- Wipe the outside
- Check that airflow is not restricted
- Periodically (or if airflow drops)
- Unscrew the demister
- Open the housing
- Clean or replace the filter media (depending on model)
- Empty any collected oil
- Reassemble and reinstall

👉 If oil accumulates inside, you can pour it back into the pump (filtered through a paper towel).

Common mistakes to avoid

❌ Installing it on the vacuum hose port (wrong port)
❌ Over-tightening
❌ Running the pump without oil (demister doesn’t replace oil checks)
❌ Letting the demister tip sideways

Tips for best results:
- Keep pump oil clean and at proper level
- Use in a well-ventilated area
- If you still smell oil → clean or replace the demister filter
